India's Current Situation With Covid-19

In just a few months, coronavirus pandemic has killed at least 350K people and infected 5.6 million people across the world.

As Lockdown 4.0, the fourth phase of the nationwide lockdown, has been imposed till 31st of May with so many relaxations, the number of cases hikes gradually. On 24th of May, India overtakes Iran in cases, becomes the 10th most affected country in the world. And witnessed the biggest-ever spike with 7000 plus cases on Sunday, taking the total number of Covid-19 cases to 138,536. Sikkim And Nagaland were the only states that were the only COVID-free states in the country. But on Sunday Sikkim reports its first covid-19 positive case who recently returned from Delhi and Nagaland reports 3 coronavirus cases for the first time on Monday.

About 70% of India’s cases are come out from 11 “municipal areas” in seven states: Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, and Rajasthan, the Ministry said in a statement.

Current Situation Of India

The situation of the Migrant workers or daily wage workers going to be worse day by day and with covid-19 they are fighting difficult battles for their survival i.e. food and water. Either they will die with covid-19 or of starving.

The government have started Shramik Express to help those stranded people who want to return to their homes but due to lack of coordination between the state government and the railways,  workers are suffering. Due to no proper timing or delay, wrong information provided or somewhere routes are changed; migrant workers are facing so many difficulties.

And many of them have started their journey to their native places on foot. While government announced Vande Bharat mission for Indians who stranded overseas, many of the migrant workers walk back to their native places. The only way they have left with walking, bicycles, or hatching rides with no food or water under scorching sun.

It’s not only the migrant workers who are facing the burnt of lockdown, but middle class with meager income are badly hit too. Due to this pandemic, most of them lost their jobs who were in corporate sectors and getting half salary.  And those working as consultants/in the gig economy along with small businesses/non-essential shops have been hit badly.

Most families across the country are grappling with a sudden loss of income due to which they face difficulties for paying rents, expenses on groceries. school fees, electricity bills. And many of them have already withdrawn their PF to fulfill their necessities

As this is the time for the cutting and sowing new crops and fruits. Many farmers are facing difficulties due to lack of workers as a result of curfew, lockdown.

These workers are responsible for harvesting, collection of stubble, storage, and transporting them to mandis. Even in mandis these workers are the ones who clean the grains and fruits before it sold.

Domestic workers like guards and maids are now being challenged with increased poverty and financial challenges. Many domestic workers are abandoned by their employers in the time of crisis, denied full payments for the month of march, and not even bothering to pay them for the coming months.

As there are no law and rights to protect domestic workers, this pandemic gives us a call that we need a law for one of the most important of our society.

Covid-19 affects various sectors like automotive, entertainment industry, tourism industry, pharmaceutical industry, media industry, to the education industry, IT industry, art industry, construction, business, and transport industry. With their potential losses and prediction in the near future, it would take time for them to come on track.

Since the whole world governments are entirely focussed to anyhow control the exponential growth of pandemic, they have imposed medical emergencies in the countries. But this is also true that Covid-19 is an additional burden on the healthcare system. It is not like that other diseases have vanished all of sudden. Entire health department is totally devoted to treating corona patients only. In this situation the other patients than this virus have been extremely marginalized. They have been left entirely on their own. Private sector hospitals, as everybody knows, are not affordable for low-income families. It is now obvious that people are also dying due to medical negligence since every govt hospital in different regions is locked to treat Corona patients only. A vast number of patients already suffering from deadly diseases or illnesses like cancer, asthma, diabetes, heart attack, dengue, tuberculosis, HIV, fatal injuries and road accidents who are not Covid symptomatic, are not getting immediate services.

In that scenario many have been left dying while waiting for the immediate response and treatments from the hospitals. There is very less media attention towards this. Govt and media, all are busy collecting no of death reports due to Corona infection, but no-one is talking about other seriously ill patients who also need urgent care during this lockdown situation. In fact the number of people suffering from prevalent deadly diseases are quite higher than the Covid-19 cases. If you look at the actual statistics, you will find that death cases from other deadly diseases are also far higher than the Corona cases. Although very few such cases got media attention, I am pretty much sure that the incidents of patients dying from other well known fatal diseases due to medical negligence are overwhelmingly higher.

Lockdown And Technology

Lockdown 4.0, the fourth phase of the nationwide lockdown, has been imposed till 31st of May with so many relaxations. But the cases on the day first of lockdown 4.0 have been crossed the 1 Lac, over 3000 deaths.

Many things changed with the lockdown or Lockdown has changed the way to use or consume many things. As you only need to stay at home, the use of online technology has increased suddenly. The number of users on Youtube, Facebook, Online games users across all the social media platforms has increased. Some of the Online Platforms have got huge profits in lockdown. That I am using personally too.

By not just scrolling the screen but also learning new recipes, skills, and having experience of untouched features of this platform. We are learning various new things which we have not tried due to lack of time. I am pretty much sure you people also enjoying the same way. Some people are busy in exploring new areas on online platforms to use as new opportunities for them. And I know you people also learn from them too and used them as an opportunity. Some of them are:

  1. Users on Facebook: During the lockdown, users of Facebook have increased. Stats for numbers of active users is much higher than as compared to previous data. Nowadays this social media platform is one of the best marketing tools to reach millions of people by targeting the correct audience by location, demographics, and interests and build brand loyalty.
And in lockdown when people can’t go outside to sell their products and services, they have started selling things in the online platform. And no doubt Facebook is one of the best sources to reach the correct audience if used in a veracious manner.

  1. Zoom: The app is India’s favorite lockdown app for personal and professional reasons both. The app who was in loss before lockdown suddenly grows billion of profit in lockdown. This app is the example that if you think big, you cant be in loss. People use this app for office meetings because 300 people at one time can easily connect to this app. For birthday parties, anniversaries people are doing digital get together with this easy to use app.

  1. Whatsapp: One of the best messaging app with calling feature till date. Whatsapp users have also increased on this lockdown. Whatsapp has also doubled the number of participants from four to eight on a voice/video call in this lockdown.
Facebook recently launched a Messenger Room feature similar to the zoom or Google Meet. The feature is available for everyone and soon it will be accessible via WhatsApp allowing its users to directly have group calls with friends on Facebook. Users need to have a Facebook account to create a room that takes place outside of WhatsApp. People can connect by scanning the QR code.
QR code And Whatsapp room features are under beta testing now and will be available soon for use.

  1. Online Games: Addiction to Pubg is also we all aware about one of the youth lovers’ games. People have reinstalled the game as they have enough time to play now during the lockdown.
Ludo being launch way back, has really come into being during the lockdown. People who are away from their families reliving their childhood memories by playing the same old game with new technology.
Ludo, Tambola, house party games have united the families. Uno from Mattel is also hiked up in this lockdown. That is a family fun game that everyone enjoys regardless of age.

These are some of the likest things related to technology that people enjoying in this lockdown.

And this covid-19 has given us signals that now its time for the digital revolution. And big MNCs also promote work from home jobs for their employees. And due to social distancing norms people will be connected digitally more as compared to visiting places.

Everyone on this planet is now aware of the term covid-19. For more details, you can check about covid-19 here also. Every country is fighting with this virus in her own best ways. As of now, there is no medicine is available. However, we can follow a few things to protect ourselves and our nears and dears. There are some steps that we need to follow to protect us from this demon.

  1. Social Distancing: One of the major precautions is to maintain a physical distance from one another. Others are like avoiding social gatherings, wearing a mask, greetings with our traditional method namaste & staying 3 meters away from another person.

  1. Yoga: There is no disadvantage of doing yoga. Yoga is always beneficial to us in any way. It improves our strength, flexibility, and confidence. Many studies confirmed that yoga benefits our mental and physical health.

We are in lockdown state for a long time. Due to lack of social minglings, lockdown is affecting our physiological and psychological well-being. We are now started getting relaxation with so many limitations. However, people can’t go to gyms, parks or workout together with friends. So, yoga, our ancient practice, can rescue ourselves in this staying all the time at home situation. Some yoga methods might be the best during this period according to their easiness:

    a. Surya Namaskar b.    Meditation c. Brahmari Pranayama

  2. Meditation: You can also practice meditation at home. You should try it doing anywhen between 1 min to 30 minutes.

  3. Exercise: Most of us think yoga and exercise are synonyms. But in actuality, they are different from each other. Although both of them are to improve our physical and mental health, but they are practiced in different ways. An exercise is to improve our physical activities and focus on our physical training mainly. In a lockdown, most of the people are sitting in front of their laptops for continuously 9 to 5 with exiguous physical activities. So, the exercise comes here to rescue us from the high risk of obesity and other likely health issues. Some of the exercises might be the best during this period after a long day:

    a. Jumping jacks b. Situps c. Sprawls d. Plank hold You can try different types of exercises for at least 15 minutes a day

  4. Water: Drinking warm water throughout the day helps you to fight against the viral infections. It is simply because warm water might kill virus to spread infection in the throat and lungs.

  5. Ayurvedic Immunity Booster: As all the medical studies has made it obvious that virus damages our immune system; your survival finally depends on your immune capacity. One can take a spoon of Chyavanprash in the morning because Chyavanprash helps to restore vital energy in the body. You can prepare various homemade natural immune boosters also like a herbal tea or kadha made from tulsi(Basil), Munakka(Raisin), Dalchini(Cinnamon), Kalimirch(Black Pepper), and sunthi(Dry Ginger). You can add lemon or honey according to your taste. Apart from this, there are sources of natural antioxidants in our kitchen like turmeric and ginger. You should add turmeric and coriander seeds in every cooking item.

  6. Milk: Milk is a powerhouse with so many essential nutrients. It boosts our immunity and helps us to stay energetic. You can drink hot milk once or twice a day with a half teaspoon of Haldi (Turmeric Powder). As mentioned above turmeric is a natural source of antioxidant.

  7. Nasal Application: You can also apply sesame oil or pure ghee in both the nostrils in the morning and in the evening. This helps to prevent cough and cold.

These are some of the natural methods to avoid getting sick in this coronavirus pandemic. Some general precautions should also be taken in this critical situation.

  1. News Consumption: Watching the news is useful to be aware of day to day happenings around you and the world, have consciousness. But frequent news watching, sharing panic messages related to the pandemic, reading social media opinion can cause an imbalance to your emotional state.

  1. Posture: You should always try to sit in the correct posture. A good posture for sitting is very important in work from home situation. Moreover, poor posture may hamper the blood circulation inside your varicose veins which can lead to pain in the backbone and one can become susceptible to developing slip disc. It is always advisable to do stretching for at least 5 minutes after every 30 minutes of sitting session.

 “Prevention is better than cure”.

We need to be careful not only towards ourselves but also children and elderly people. As per the CDC and WHO warnings children and elderly people are at greater risk of getting infected from the Covid-19 virus. Though mortality rate for young people are very low, but they can become a super spreader of the disease spreading it to many more by going outside from their homes. Anyone should not take any chance. People should not spread fake news to others within the community, since it will create no solution for anybody rather create more panic among them.
